I need a little advice. I am seriously considering learning Latin. (That's right. Latin. How am I a member of this group without yet knowng any Latin, you ask? I draw from my collective knowledge of Spanish, French, and Italian). I learned my Italian from "The Everything Learning Italian Book." I really like the format of these "Everything" books, but the Latin one I looked up on Amazon.com got a review that stated it had a lot of minor errors in it. I checked out the "Everything" Spanish, French, and Italian books just to investigate, and found that these books got similar comments (though all of them had some very good reviews to accompany the bad ones). If nothing else, I'm growing a little more grateful I supplemented my Italian with Verbix 6.0 and other online resources. I don't really like audio learning. I'm very much a book learner when it comes to foreign languages. Can anyone recommend a comprehensive, well-organized (preferably with a format as similar as possible to the "Everything" book series) Latin primer for a guy who doesn't know a word of Latin but is extremely familiar with three Latin-descendant languages and is well-practiced in learning a foreign language? Plus, what's the best form of Latin to learn? I've seen Latin with alot of diacritics, and I've seen Latin with almost no diacritics. What forms of Latin are there and which one(s) are most commonly learned by modern people? Thanks!
