Determining Stress * The stressed syllable must be one of the last 3. * A syllable containing an acute or circumflex accent must be stressed. * A syllable containing ë, ö, or a grave accent can't be stressed. * The final syllable is stressed if the word ends in 2 consonant letters. * The final syllable is stressed if the word ends in any of c, f, p, t, x. * The final syllable is stressed if it contains æ or au. * The final syllable is stressed if it contains in or un. * The final syllable is stressed if it ends in b, d, g, j, l, m, r, v, z and contains any vowel other than e. * If the next-to-last syllable ends in e (with no accent), it can't be stressed unless there are no other choices. * Some monosyllabic words are unstressed. * (any other rules not figured out yet) Jeff
