Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but as I understand it, Classical Latin was spoken a few centuries BCE and diverged. The conservative dialect remained in the upper classes and was used for writing, while the lower became Vulgar Latin, which is essentially CL used in a brothel. So, yes, Spanish and Italian et alia are derived from CL, but only through VL. Possibly. Don't take my word alone. Christopher Wright An' a grumly guest I'm sure am I. ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand!
