Well, here's what I can offer:

Much        Milk
Fr. *       lait
Sp. mucho   leche
It. molto   latte
Pt. muito   leite
Rm. mult    lapte

So, it looks like Spanish, and Portuguese pattern then
together while Italian and Romanian do not.  What
would MULTU have become in French if not lost?
