RE: [katanda] lesson 11

hi andy!

Stephan:
what is a disjunct? are there any other disjuncts than "deictic" ones?
bye the way, what does deixis mean? i haven't found it neither in my
english dictionary nor in my latin dictionary

"deixis" /'daiksis/ is an English word taken from Greek. A deictic
word is one whose meaning is defined relative to the act of uttering
it. For example, "me" refers to whoever is uttering "me". "You"
refers to whoever "you" is being said to. "Now" refers to the time
at which "now" is being uttered. usw.

thank you! do you know the ethymology of "deixis" as well?

"disjunct" is used by different writers to mean wholly different things.
I don't know how Rick uses it.

rick, can you help me?

stefo,
sts.
