aspect derivatives

Rick,
1) In LS 15.0 it says:

>The inceptive, terminative, resumptive, and completive are all perfect
by default.  If we force them to be to be imperfect, we can obtain
senses such as "John was starting to sing the song when ... etc".  We'll
see how to do this later.

Do we force them to be imperfect by using multiple aspect words as in these examples from 15.1?  And what are the resulting aspects?

>Here are some more examples that require more than one aspect:

John was starting to sing the song when...
= past imperfect + inceptive + verb
= John mepi dence sing the song when...

John used to stop smoking as soon as I arrived.
= past habitual + terminative + verb
= John nupi bunce smoke as soon as I arrived.

John started to (habitually) smoke when he was 15 years old.
= past inceptive + habitual + verb
= John depi nunce smoke when he was 15 years old.

2) Since the four aspects inceptive, terminative, resumptive, and completive are all perfect by default, how are their derivations imperfective, as in the examples in 15.3?
