It's not simply voicing contrast, the place and manner of articulation are different. t is dental stop and d is alveolar tap or stop. In dialects d is missing or /r/, but it was artificially reestablished in the standard language. Historically it was voiced fricative /D/ before it and its kind disappeared from Finnish. Risto
