"jiq" is Mandarin/Ceqli for "surprise," so I've been using it to 
make compounds with "kay" words to make "but", which seems to 
be "and" with a note of unexpectedness.

Go bi sunimo hijiq go xaw teli.   I'm a monk but I watch television.
To xyen pa dorm kayjiq bu drim.  The dog slept but didn't dream.
Da bi ga pikayjiq frentan xyen.  He's a big but friendly dog.

All this make sense?
