One is that we have one set of names for lower case and one for lower case: b = bew B = buy And as an alternative to ew and uy we could have a lot of things. We picked those two because they're not likely to clash with any other words we might want, as ay and ey would, for example. Problem with this scheme is, of course, lack of redundancy. We could instead have unique, redundant names for the 14 consonants with 14 different sets of vowels, but I can't come up with an esthetic set, or one easy to learn. We are probably on better ground with bwey, bway for pronunciation reasons. And, for that matter, if more than two are needed, they could be extended to bwoy. OTOH, lack of reduncancy means that all letters will have to have other names when precision is required. Probably we should simply have an "as in" word, thus: Let's say that zayn means 'as in'. bwey zayn balu, cwey zayn caw, dwey zayn dom, etc. -- Rex F.
