It's too difficult to distinguish the following
pairs in connected speech:

bua bwa
bau baw
bai bay
bia bya
Ray:
For Japanese speakers the "bi-a bya" difference is crucial.  "bi-a" is two syllable beats of time and "bya" is the same time length as "bi" or "a" - a single syllable.  For Chinese the "baw byaw" difference is crucial.  Don't drop the glides unless you want to reduce the usefulness of the conlang to just an occidental interlengo.  The original Latin alfabet used "U" for [w] and [u: / U] and used "I" for [j] and [i: / I].  Your alfabet will no longer be useful for transcribing non-romance languages.
