Not to put too fine a point on it, but the "imaginary or unreal" part
is a matter of opinion, not objective fact.
However, your distinction between "external and public" and
"individual and private" is an excellent one. I've been feeling for
some time that the "dev" classifier is too broad, but my attempts at
dividing it haven't been as clear as the one you just enunciated.
