tense of consecutive verbs

Rick,
The first verb in a sentence determines the tense of consecutive verbs if no other tense is explicitly expressed, but how far does this tense carry-over continue? Can it last for a paragraph or a story, for example, a recitation of one's daily routine, such as the following?
"Every day I get up [habitual aspect, present tense]. I shower. I brush my teeth. I get dressed. I eat breakfast. I go to work."
